About CFUW Northumberland
CFUW Northumberland was founded in 1991 and is one of the 60 Clubs existing across the province of Ontario . We currently have over 90 members drawn from Cobourg, Port Hope and the surrounding townships. The membership consists of women graduates of universities across Canada and beyond and associate members who support our aims and interests. Our monthly meetings are held on the first Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. In the fall, meetings are held at Port hope High School and in the winter/spring at Cobourg District Collegiate East. At these meetings, we enjoy presentations on a wide range of topics, and the company and friendship of the membership. In December and June, special social events are held in the homes of our members. Every May, an annual luncheon featuring a guest speaker is held as a major fund-raising event to help defray the cost of our scholarships. Yearly, we award scholarships to students from the six secondary schools in the area. In addition, we have recently established an endowment fund with Trent University which will assist a returning undergraduate or graduate female student. Our membership enjoys participating in one or more of the 18 interest groups that have been formed over the years and are such a wonderful source of information, support and friendship. An informative newsletter, The Northumberland Network, is published three times annually in April, September and November.
On the 21st of October, 2006, our local Club hosted the Ontario Central Fall Gathering. The province is divided into 5 areas, all of which host a Fall Gathering in their own regions. Our Ontario Central group consists of 16 Clubs from the greater Toronto area and reaching as far north as the Orillia district and as far east as the Cobourg area. The theme for our event was "Refresh, Reflect, Reconnect". On this occasion, we also joyfully celebrated the 15 th anniversary of CFUW Northumberland.
